SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest (Vote, p5)
Overview: http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... test;42797
Rules and Start: http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... tart;42822
We've got another map contest going on at SWBFFiles from now through the next month. Our theme this time is the planet "Taris," which is a little bit more ambitious - so I would encourage as many people as possible to join, because it'll be a fantastic opportunity to really step up and make something really impressive!
We're also trying out a collaboration of sorts with JKFiles in this contest, which will be one more fun thing to see. Make sure you read through the posts above, and let me know if you have any questions. Get started mapping!

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
I won't be able to participate in this one, but it sounds like it could be a really great contest. It's definitely a great chance for skinners/modelers to showcase their talent. And of course, after the contest is over and the maps can be re-released, it's a great opportunity to make use of the Conversion Pack's KotOR sides.
Good luck to anyone who does join up!

If I weren't such a crappy modder, then I'd probably join in. Can't wait to see what people are going to produce in this contest. It's also time for me to reinstall JKA.

Don't let that be an excuse, you may surprise yourself.Ping wrote:If I weren't such a crappy modder, then I'd probably join in. Can't wait to see what people are going to produce in this contest. It's also time for me to reinstall JKA.

True, although I'm still trying to figure out how to change the terrain levels, so the map isn't flat, and I haven't even started to read up on how to place objects in maps.Maveritchell wrote:Don't let that be an excuse, you may surprise yourself.Ping wrote:If I weren't such a crappy modder, then I'd probably join in. But who knows, you might be right.

My computer doesn't work, so everyone who hated my map in the first competition won't be hearing from me this time around!

This one will definitely be interesting... I wonder if we'll see any maps that are similar in the style of buildings used and location on the planet.
I can't wait to start seeing entries.
It's gonna be fun!

I can definitely say that I have enough on my plate already, battle arena, DMI, etc. But the idea of Taris sounds neat, and I probably have the modeling ability to do something, just not the time unfortunately.

If you are trying to get started modding, you should check out my tutorial I wrote when Filefront is back up. It is here:Ping wrote:True, although I'm still trying to figure out how to change the terrain levels, so the map isn't flat, and I haven't even started to read up on how to place objects in maps.Maveritchell wrote:Don't let that be an excuse, you may surprise yourself.Ping wrote:If I weren't such a crappy modder, then I'd probably join in. Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
Personally I didn't think Taris was a great choice; many of it's environments are just screaming for custom models, which is quite off-putting to some beginners.
I might give this a go though, I've got some free time this week and next during 3d modeling class.

Not all of them, though. The Sewer/Undercity could use Jabba's palace props easily.many of it's environments are just screaming for custom models

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
it's definately a tough map to do but not impossible with custom models rends coruscant assets are great as well as some of the shipped assets like bespin, and kamino platforms.

I assumig this isn't going to happen but will GT take over the FF map contest if FF isn't back to 100% working order by the time it's ready to submit maps?

According to Filefront Staff, they are working around the clock to get it done by this Friday.YaNkFaN wrote:I assumig this isn't going to happen but will GT take over the FF map contest if FF isn't back to 100% working order by the time it's ready to submit maps?

We've got at least another month before the deadline -- plenty of time.Fierfek wrote:According to Filefront Staff, they are working around the clock to get it done by this Friday.YaNkFaN wrote:I assumig this isn't going to happen but will GT take over the FF map contest if FF isn't back to 100% working order by the time it's ready to submit maps?

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
Yeah, I doubt anyone will be submitting anything worthwhile until next week anyway. Unless they are a super fast modder........Xavious wrote:We've got at least another month before the deadline -- plenty of time.Fierfek wrote:According to Filefront Staff, they are working around the clock to get it done by this Friday.YaNkFaN wrote:I assumig this isn't going to happen but will GT take over the FF map contest if FF isn't back to 100% working order by the time it's ready to submit maps?

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
A little late, but a great contest would be a "Make something with these assets" contest. Taris would have been a great candidate for it. Give them a handful of prefabs and tell them to make something of it/any other assets they can find.

Do you mean like releasing some assets and making the mapper use them for their map?Teancum wrote:A little late, but a great contest would be a "Make something with these assets" contest.
