Having trouble with munge / modding [Solved]

Post by ghescwa »

Hi all

I've been using other people's mods on BF2 pretty much since its release and finally decided to have a go myself.

I've been trying to follow a couple of instructional videos on YouTube. What I want to do is change the weapons for a class on a stock map (e.g. give the clone engineer the bolt caster like on BF1). Eventually I'd like to reskin classes too.

I used munge to create all the data in a new map folder. Then munged from within the new map folder and this copied some data into my game directory's addon folder. According to the videos I watched, I should now be able to play the blank map, however it doesn't even get to the loading screen before crashing to desktop on instant action. Additionally, the map name is nonsense.

Any ideas?

Much appreciated.

OK, just trying to create a test map in this stage. My plan is when the test map works, I can then change the stock weapons to see if it works, then load stock map assets (e.g. Kamino) so I can play the map with different weapons . Unless there is a quicker way of changing weapons around?

So here's what I did

I ran BF2_ModTools\data\_BUILD\Modtools VisualMunge

I filled in world name (ABC), Full World Name, Description. I selected Conquest in game modes and hit "Create World".

Code: Select all

Copying "data" folder to "data_ABC" - this may, and indeed *will*, take a while...done.
Creating new world for "ABC"...
Creating munged data folder...done.
Creating world data folders...done.
Copying template \Effects folder...done.
Copying template \MSH folder...done.
Copying template \ODF folder...done.
Copying template world files to new world folder...done.
Copying template files for conquest mode...done.
Rewriting LDX file...done.
Rewriting world REQ file...done.
Copying game-mode LUAs and LUA-REQs...done.
Adjusting mission.req to suit the needs of your discerning personality...all set.
Adjusting addme.lua in the same way, only moreso...all set, only moreso.
Adding world name and description to english.cfg...done.
Adding world name and description to french.cfg...done.
Adding world name and description to german.cfg...done.
Adding world name and description to italian.cfg...done.
Adding world name and description to spanish.cfg...done.
Adding world name and description to japanese.cfg...done.
Adding world name and description to uk_english.cfg...done.
World creation completed to complete completion.

Went to BF2_ModTools\data_ABC\_BUILD and ran Modtools VisualMunge again from here

In the munge, I selected sides: everything, "select all" and hit "munge"; it says "all done - play Battlefront"

Code: Select all

\Intel\iCLS was unexpected at this time.
Munging addme.lua...done.
Copying files to Battlefront II directory:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData"
Addon dir exists, continuing...
Mod dir "ABC"exists, continuing...
Copying addme.script to mod dir...done
Copying "mission.lvl" to modDir\data\_LVL_PC\...done
Copying "core.lvl" to modDir\data\_LVL_PC\...done
Copying "ABC" to modDir\data\_LVL_PC\...done
Copying "SIDE" to modDir\data\_LVL_PC\...done
Munge process finished
Navigated to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\addon

The "ABC" folder is in there. it has an addme.script and subfolder "data" with an empty sub-subfolder "_LVL_PC".

(I'm guessing that there is supposed to be more stuff in this folder? )

Started up BF2, went to instant action, and selected the map ("ABC %s %s") When I press play, there is no loading screen - it just crashes straight to desktop.

I hope this clears up exactly what I did - now can you tell me where I am going wrong?

yeah man that's brilliant. So you say that the abc folder is empty. I'm not 100% sure whether the auto copy works for the steam version. Take a look at the C:\BF2_ModTools\data_ABC\_LVL_PC folder are there any things like mission.lvl, core.lvl, side folder,... ?

If there are, copy everything to your empty lvl_pc folder from your game directory

I downloaded the munge fix, copied the files over to BF2_ModTools\data and now the test map works.

On to the next challenge...

(GT won't seem to let me use advanced search on the forums for some reason, so it's taking longer to find helpful threads)

Yeah the search is a little buggy. For me it sometimes says something like "error, please try later", too.

It's not a bug. There's a timeout in between searches, probably because searching the forum database takes up a lot of resources server-side.
