Hmm.... I followed your tutorial to the letter (except my map is TM1, not TES, but I named everything accordingly) and it doesn't work. There are still no sounds for the AT-ST. :?

Im almost positive they need to be included, with the rest of the sound entry.

From simply reading them I take it that they tell the engine which sounds to used, based of the platform. Perhaps xbox and pc use different formats than ps2, so it needs a unique entry.

I was wondering if someone could help me out of this. I've gotten nearly all my vehicle sounds working on my Battle of the Bridge map but I'm having trouble with one little thing.
Tauntauns.
Now I've guesstimated that I need to copy just the soundproperties lines for the Tauntauns from the sound/worlds/hot/hotgcw AU Format Sound file into my own modid's AU format sound file. Is this right?
Then I open my datamodidgcw.req and call "datamodidgcw" in the req under config. Is this correct?
I've got the Tauntaun data strings in my .sfx file so I just need to munge and do the rest like any other vehicle sounds right? Should that work?

It should work the same way as any other sound. Since this type is map specific, yes you do need to copy over the hot1gcw.snd file to your map. Call for hot1gcw.snd in your sound req, and add the needed sfx lines to your xxx.sfx file.

If youre not sure which sfx entries are needed, open up hot1gcw.snd with a text editor and locate the tauntaun lines. everyone pertaining to the tauntaun needs to be called in the sfx file. But this shouldn't be an issue, as usually the sfx found in the map your referencing (in this case hoth) will be all together, under a commented line like "// tauntaun" or the likes.

Thanks. That helped me becasue now I know I was doing the Tauntaun right. Something else in the sfx file was causing me to lose all GCW vehicle sounds, not just adding the Tauntaun lines. I couldn't figure out what it was so I deleted all my vehicle sounds, and rewrote them and presto, everthing works.

I got the same problem as hebes, I followed step by step the tutorial, made a testmap and everything the tut asked for. And my atst still don't have sounds. Is there something more that I have to change?


I want to put sounds on the atte, so could someone addapt the tutorial to an "atte sound" tut?

arg...i tried this and i got no success, and a bunch of errors on my computer...please help

Ignore those errors, there's a bug with VM and those errors will appear whenever you munge sound.

sorry for the huge bump but ive tried this over and over and my ???.lvl always ends up as a 5 byte file and no sound is added to my map. could somebody please help?

The process is the same as the first post, you're just replacing the AT-ST stuff with TIE fighter stuff.

In your tescw.req you would replace imp_walk_atst with imp_fly_tie because that is the name of the snd file in:
data_ABC\Sound\gcw

Hoth is the only ground map in SWBF2 with a flyer, so anything else will be in the spa (space) folder.
The sound paths you need for the TIE fighter in your tescw.sfx file are here:
data_ABC\Sound\worlds\spa\spa1gcw.sfx

Search for "TIE"

Work your way through the tutorial and get the AT-ST sounds working before trying to go off on your own.
