[Sol Map Pack] Luna: Apollo 17 (build 0329/02)

Post by Marth8880 »

I introduce to you all...

SOL - LUNA: APOLLO 17

Image

This is the pilot map to a rather large map pack whose maps will be released one by one and is being created by myself and THEWULFMAN. As most of you probably already know, LUNA, Terra's one and only natural satellite, has been studied by astronomers and eventually explored by astronauts for quite a large number of years, and this map is set upon the landing site from the Apollo 17 lunar landing mission. Although the map isn't an exact copy of the landing site, it is a close representation - give or take a few Star Wars props here and there.

My excuse for gravity being present? Everybody is wearing gravity shoes like in 2001: A Space Odyssey!

^this
Looks really neat and the atmoshphere is sooo cool... That's a rare concept, this map is going to be awesome, I imagine :)
BTW, The Darth Vader and Plo Koon head model were converted by Deviss. About Plo's saber, you can ask in the Help me find an assets author topic, by giving some infos on the msh name, for example.

I am really looking forward to this map! The textures are great and I like the crashed spaceship! If you already have ideas for sides/vehicles/etc then dont read the spoiler I guess...

Anyways
Hidden/Spoiler:
Would it be possible to add like a lunar rover? It would look like a quad + cab and extra large tires  it would also have turrets ( duh ) for shooting things up. As for something heavier a great big lunar landing module would work. It could look like the apollo module and move or it could look whatever you want it to look like I guess.

Also, could you have have custom CP'S/sides? If you had an american flag for one team, your astronauts ( stormies + backpack and re-skinned helmet to look like astronaut, maybe skin-tight cloth painted white to make the suit look wrinkly. ) And a random chineese symbol for your aliens. ( not sure how you'd make aliens but you get the idea ) I think that would look GREAT. Also, you could give your astronauts lunar rifles, say super-slow-mo blue lazer guns ( slow-mo because gravity took the red pill ) and give your aliens really awesome super-fast green pink and purple explosive ray guns ( because aliens are better like that. ) To make it fair aliens can move slow, and your astronauts could fly. Also, fire wouldn't work in space, so for the thermal detonator effect if you could remove its "fireball" aftershock and replcace it with...maybe a black vortex or something, that would be awesome. And aliens could have a bright yellow and purple bomb that when it blows up, well, shoots purple and yellow lazers everywhere. I think you know what I mean anyways 8)

Great map and I am looking forward to it!

Looks like a very interesting map, Marth. Looks more like 66% to 69% complete to me. Curious, why is it called Sol: Luna instead of Luna: followed by a location on the moon?

Thank you, me too!
Tears2Roses wrote:Would it be possible to add like a lunar rover?
Yes, it would be possible, but I would like to stick with Star Wars, but with the addition of a historic Lunar Lander prop.
Tears2Roses wrote:Also, could you have have custom CP'S/sides?
No; this map pack will have little to no custom sides, other than skins or other visual enhancements.
Tears2Roses wrote:Also, fire wouldn't work in space...
Fire-explosions actually do, in fact, happen in space, as long as there is some sort of oxidizer.
AQT wrote:Looks like a very interesting map, Marth. Looks more like 66% to 69% complete to me. Curious, why is it called Sol: Luna instead of Luna: followed by a location on the moon?
Thanks! It's called Sol: Luna because it is a part of the Sol map pack; however, in the map description it is called Sol: Luna (Apollo 17 - Landing Site)
DarthEste01 wrote:if i download a skin for jedi academy, will it work in back
Yes, but the skin would have to match its model's texture map - I am not sure how to explain it.
DarthEste01 wrote:nice map,has it got an image of the earth far away in the sky?
No; I still need to create and add that.

Gee, I wonder who that "somebody else" could possibly be? *hint hint*

This map is completely amazing. Typically I don't like maps like this, but this was an exception.
It wasn't too large, wasn't too small, great combat both as infantry and in vehicles. Everything fit together perfectly. It was polished.
Just a few questions:
Why didn't the CIS/Rebels get the MTT/Hovernaut respectively? Is there a reason?
Why must this map be better than any map I could ever make, and I know it?

Well for one, I didn't think about it; that would be cool, I will consider it if it doesn't bring unbalance (to the force).
