Hello Gametoasters. So after a failed attempt at a remake in late 2009 of my first map, which I had originally conceived in late 2008/early 2009, I think I've finally nailed the look and feel of it this third (and hopefully final) time around in late 2012!

If you don't already know, this map will be based on the second level from Star Wars: Dark Forces, entitled Talay: Tak Base, After the Massacre. The massacre refers to the first time the Phase II Dark Troopers were deployed by the Empire in a test/demonstration that virtually wiped out the inhabitants of the Rebel-controlled Tak Base on the planet Talay. Featured game modes will take place both before and after this massacre.

Unlike this and this map, I will actually be very committed to this project, which I will resume major work on this upcoming winter recess. :D

Whoa, dawg! Looks incredible!!! 1:() However, it looks like you've got quite a bit of repeating going on in the hellbush background. :o

I dunno, I thought your second try was pretty good. It wasn't incredibly pretty, but it was a lot of fun to play and the campaign was well-written. If I were you, I'd either remodel (or at least re-UV) the stock models you're retexturing - right now, some of the textures tile too much. The prop lights look nice, but your ambient lighting is too bright - I'd crank it down to a near-darkness (something like 40 30 80 ) and let your placed lights really shine.

Oh and one more thing that's always sort've stuck in my craw - the purple? It's always seemed a little oppressive. I know the original sky in Dark Forces was purple, but that was just an evening sky. I think it'd look a lot better if you made the purple either a) more subdued as a component of a mostly-night sky (which is what you have now, with the stars out, etc.) or b) part of a sun-setting sky. Right now (and as before) all that purple looks a little garish when it's not paired with a lot of terrain that reflects it (and rightly there isn't a lot in the city that's purple).

Those dark tiles you use for some of the floors look great from further away, but a bit blurry closer up - I would either reUV it like Mav suggested, or use a higher-rez texture.

Other than that, looking great! :thumbs:

Also, I forgot if you mentioned which gamemodes you were going to do?

I think Conquest, Hunt (Dark Trooper Phases 1 and 2 vs Rebel light and heavy troopers), Campaign (obviously), and 2-flag CTF would be excellent (depending on the size) would be nice.

Basically the modes from the previous version, but with CTF added? Up to you obviously, but throwing that out there.

And if the Bryar pistol from JKO/JA as well as Infinity_Blade's Dark Forces Kyle could be converted for this, it'd be spot on.

The Bryar from JKO/JKA looks horrible to me. I intend to model the real Bryar from the older Dark Forces sometime down the road.

@Marth8880: The repeating tree billboards have been taken cared of. :)

@Mav and Fiodis: Some of the tiling is intentional, but there is indeed excessive tiling present elsewhere, which I am currently working on to reduce.

As for the lighting, it actually currently is quite dark, and I don't think I'd like it to be any darker than it is already, but this might change down the road in the map's development. As for the purple, I don't know...I kind of like it, even if it doesn't sense. :P I just feel that purple and Talay go hand in hand.

@RED51: No stock sides will be featured in this map at all. :wink:

@RevanSithLord: Game modes will be the ones you listed, but I'm not quite sure if Conquest will work yet. If not, Team Deathmatch will take its place. I also plan on adding some other modes. Not sure which ones yet, though.

Deviss had already converted the Bryar from Jedi Outcast for me a while back, but if WULF wants to make one that is more accurate to Dark Forces, then I will gladly use his.

You're right Wulf, the one from JO/JKA looks plain ugly. here is actually an improved model out there someone made, however I think I'd much rather see your version of it. :)

@AQT - Since I have my 'newer' rig, I can totally make a trailer for it. I could make a very nostalgic type of trailer. :)

(Also, as said before, also depends on the layout)

Maybe I've been spoiled by your fantastic maps in the past, but I remember going through your maps on Filefront and I think the only one I avoided was Talay (the original I guess) because it didn't seem up to par with your usual work. (This was based on the pictures alone) Either way, to see that you're tackling it again is really awesome. I'm quite excited to give this a play through!

Apologies if I sounded jerkish up there, just trying to illustrate how awesome I think this looks. 8)

Same here. But that isn't to disrespect AQT, I was just waiting for updated textures so I can enjoy this map in its fullest.
