Firstly, sorry for massive post...

Icemember and I have been working on a massive project for awhile (over a year). Some things have gotten in the way like school, work, and life overall, so progress has been slow to say the least, but we finally wanted to get it out there to GT. Anyways, the whole premise of this project is that we wanted to take what inspired the Star Wars movies and take it to a whole new level never seen before. Take for example how the Battle of Yavin was inspired by dogfighting in World War II, or that the E-11 and DH-17 blasters were modified Sterling sub machine guns.

We took this idea and expanded it with this mod. You guys know of Icemember's All Battle Crisis map? (he is still improving the gameplay aspect of that map as well as updating some visuals, don't worry) Yeah. We wanted to take Operation Overlord and throw it into Star Wars format. Now, that is not saying that this mod is merely going to 'Star Warsify' World War II, no...we're including our own little twists too. Perhaps a Ia Drang Valley style map? Or a Battle of Inchon style? Or what about the Battle of Amiens? But we're going to have our own battles too, don't worry. I will post pictures of the different planets and operations that will be occurring as well as posting the story we've come up with (I'll release it in small sections, also will make sure continuity stays intact for the most part). We have many different custom legions as well as some well known ones, so as far as visuals go on sides? We're trying to bring quite a bit more variety and quality. Please bear in mind that what you see isn't necessarily the final product as we will be polishing them up with much better lighting (speaking of which, since Bob had to leave the team, we would like to ask for someone who can pull off better lighting than we possibly can), adding balance, maybe even new modes.

Now that you know the idea behind our mod, how about the progress? Well, here's the thing...since this mod is going to be constantly released in 'chapters', the mod as a whole has awhile away before becoming 50% complete as a full massive package in one (we're releasing in map packs by the way), since this will probably be a few years worth of an undertaking, BUT I can tell you at least which individual chapters are at least at what percentage, and that's what we're going to base our percentages off of - the individual chapters. Here's percentages of each individual chapters (also 'on the side' maps that still link with the mod in terms of story...story which I have been working on for quite sometime with Icemember). There are going to be at least 2-3 enemy factions and 2-3 allied factions, so you will likely not see much of the CIS, but there will be at least one or two maps where they fight the new enemy, I guarantee that. :P

Basic story:

Basic story: The Rathia system, beyond the Outer Rim, is in collapse. The former government of the entire system has crumbled from an uprising approximately 10-20 years before the outbreak of the Clone Wars. The uprising has been evolving from the former members of the previous RDF (Rathian Defense Forces), into a mere militia and eventually a full fledged militaristic government (the course they're taking) and has conquered the nearby systems. The Republic, concerned about this, sent a senator to engage in peaceful talks. At one point, the senator is murdered in his sleep by an assassin from the then Militia and the Grand Army of the Republic is forced to respond in full force. Come to find out, the Republic finds that the militia is hostile toward the CIS as well, more specifically the Trade Federation for trying to occupy the entire system and profit from it prior to the uprising. In a secret, yet massive operation, the Republic sends a large force against the new increasing threat to the Republic. The Militia, in hearing about the upcoming operation, prepares defenses all along the southern coast of the mainland of Zormanis. One of these defenses is a planetary shield, however there's a few 'holes' in the shield where enemy forces can get through (it fluctuates, so ships have to be quick to get through), so the Republic sends in a small force in advance of the main invasion to lower the shield and if possible take out the anti-ship and anti-air cannons as well as various other artillery pieces. The Rathian System War has erupted. Will you answer the call?

Okay, I know, lots of screens. But if you want constant screen updates (such as mini-updates), I advise you visit SWBF Custom (it's not an advertisement, I'm just saying the more up to date stuff is there). But anywho, massive mod is massive (or going to be in the end, if we release it in chapter/expansion form like we want). It's a large undertaking. With a lot of support and motivation, I feel this project may become a success. We just wanted to get our ideas realized. I just wanted to post this to show you guys what we have under our sleeve. Some may find it impressive, some may not, but we're having fun with it so it's all good! That's what matters, right? Having fun? :P Any inquiries? Send them to me or Icemember (I mainly just skin things, type up stories and ideas, and format posts, but I do some ODF work here and there too). We'll post a member list and credits list later.

Icemember will likely post more details as he's been the mastermind behind some cool things as of late. :)

Wow. I was wondering when this project would be finished. It looks amazing, I'll definitely give it a DL when it's released. :thumbs:

That's really neat! That sky stuff you've got going on is pretty impressive; I think it'll add a chaotic feel to the map very nicely.

The parachute's cool but not really SWish - maybe you could give that drop trooper a jump pack or hover boots something. Also, curious, how does he get up high enough to parachute in the first place? A few years ago I tried making a drop trooper that would be LUA teleported up really high as soon as he spawned, so he could glide down to the battlefield wherever he wanted. It didn't work as well as I'd wished, you guys might have a better way.

With the paratrooper dropping down, its a BG effect thing. So you see them dropping in throught out till the level ends. He get's that high from the sky file. If you actually got close to a bg paratrooper, he would see huge compared to the actual background lol.

We thought about giving them some sort of jet packs. But were headed in a ww2-ish kind of style. But not the actual ww2. So you wont see US, Britain, Russia vs German, Japan, Italy.

But wouldnt it be cool to actually get a player to actually drop in to battle by parachute?

Actually I'm pretty sure parachutes are canon in Star Wars. I know gliders have at least been used by the Rebels before, paratroopers makes sense for a military low on money, unable to afford jetpacks.

For the Republic, a high budget military though? Now parachutes are a stretch.

When we created this story, the time line is set in between ep2-ep3 and will end somewhere in the GCW era.

The republic could not afford to help many outer rim planets. Rathia being one of them. CIS invade, Rathia is force to fight there own battle. Then republic sends a recon team to see how bad things really are only to discover things are real bad. Thus the war on rathia begins, new factions arise, new technologies are discovered in beta stages, counterfeit products found. And rathia is nolonger a republic world, but an indepentdant planet.

After the recon discover how bad things are, the republic dispatch a Star corps to deal with the problem. But soon discover its going to take a lot more to conquer Rathia. With military resources being sent to the republics core worlds, The republic responds by using Rathia's capture resources to build a fast quick responce to the ever growing threat on Rathia. New prototype armors, Weapons, Technologies. (Parachutes, air balloons, water ships)

Why they dont just bombard the planet of this threat? The Rathian's deployed a planetary shield strong enough to deflect any firepower on capitalships. Lucky the DS dosent exsist yet lol. But there are tiny loop holes for small republic craft to get pass the shield like the LAAT.

But yea, thats what we have in mind why parachutes and air balloons and landings on beaches rather then with Venators and Acclamators on the planets surface.

Like seen in the video post above.

The plot is great, and I like the WW2-ish aspect. It adds a cool wist to the game.

I had a chapter in mind at one point where the shield is finally disabled and Acclamators landed in the water, kind of like you see in the 2D animated series (some do land on land, but they have to make sure it's friendly territory). There is at least one chapter I want to pull off where there's a downed Acclamator because it tried landing too far in land and the soon to be Rathian Systems Alliance takes it down with well placed flak cannon shots (imagine the Ryloth episode for that one).

All in all, we have certain reasons for certain things. A few will be there for mere cool factor, few will be there to be something different for a change, but this reason with the parachutes, despite the Republic being a high-budget military, maybe they made a few cuts somewhere? As if they didn't have enough credits. Sometimes even the highest profitable government/business can act cheap - I mean I would know, I work for Wal*Mart. xD

Plus, it's more of a quieter approach to paradropping. They used high-grade equipment to make them, so they're not substandard equipment. They're durable (though you wouldn't want blasters to hit it regardless, but they won't necessarily get you killed if a few holes were actually made, which is highly likely in this scenario), they're cheaper than issuing out jetpacks to everyone, and they're efficient with proper steering controls. They also double as a camo cover (so they're colored based on environment).

I will have to say, however that as this mod continues, the ideas will be modified and changed over time - heck I've come up with a lot of things on the spot within a few weeks just to keep the continuity as strong as possible. We did come up with the story before we started last year and it evolved into something greater. Since then I have been modifying things to keep with flow and overall continuity - so yes a few retcons have been made. Just wanted to clear things up. :)

@Darth Solous - Yes, our concept was based on the fact that the Star Wars movies based a lot of things around WW2. Such as the DLT-19 and DC-15A being modified from MG-34's as well as the E-11 and DC-15S were modified from the Sterling SMG from WW2. :) The Battle of Yavin was based off of WWII dogfights and bombings (mostly Battle of Britain I think, not that that was the only battle like that, no no...I am way more educated in WW2 than that. Been studying it for years). Stuff like that, you know?

Aside from some WW2 books I read awhile back, I actually own a couple WW2-based films, such as Battle of Britain with Michael Caine.

Which reminds me, will there be any dogfights/naval battles in this mod?

Yes there will be dog-fights and naval battles.

54th "Red Rancor" Bomber Squadron will also make its debut (but I still need to make skins for those, unless I ask Icemember for a new type of Republic Bomber). They will be attached to the Republic's 14th Carrier Battle Group of the Republic's 2nd Fleet, launched from the R.C.S. Kuat (there will be other ships with similar names, but probably names affiliated more with Kamino). What style we're going for in terms of naval ships and aircrafts? I have no idea, this is all reserved for other chapters.

But I do know it would be a heck of a sight to see a Star Wars styled Iowa-class Battleship of sorts (a Republic equivalent, meant for sea-battles and not space battles), like the U.S.S. Missouri, take on ships of similar size. We're not there yet, however so we have no idea. We are just going one step at a time.

I do have to note that: in the game Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, the Trade Federation had actual naval carriers (which launched bombers and fighters) and other vessels attacking Nym and Jinkins (and you had to defend them and help them gather codes and escape), so why not the Republic and the other factions, right?

Unless by dogfights and naval battles you do mean space? Heck why can't we have both so long as they fit in (because Star Wars did actually have actual sea battles)? I mean we do want to do stuff that's never been attempted before or at least go a step over what may have already been attempted. This idea is to be discussed in time, though. For now, I will plan with Icemember the next media presentation.

I was referring to WW2-style dogfights, although space combat would make the mod even better.
Also, have you thought about adding things like missile turrets to the naval ships (I believe there was a missile turret asset somewhere on the Asset Links thread or the Help me find an asset topic)

Yes, I can confirm that some of the music is from World of Tanks.

Considering I've sunked stupid amounts of time into that game with 5600 battles, I know the music quite well. Given, I don't listen to the vanilla music anymore, I run music mods.

Yeah, I used it for cinematic trailer purposes. I don't think it'll make it in any of our maps, but we'll see. :)
