Civil War Era - WIP

Post by Nedarb7 »

Civil War Era

So, here is my first mod WIP, let's start off with some mod history:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Back in 2012 I was planning on making a mod with the title "Special Operations" it was supposed to be a mod of some star wars story I made up (you would play as some type of alien with bright, bright cyan eyes)However one day my brother decided to model an AK-47 one day and said these words exactly: "Put it in the game", referring to SWBF2. However I didn't want to have clones, stormies, rebels, or droids running around with real world weapons, so I sat down
to think.... After that I decided to scrap "Special Operations" and make a self-mod out of the assets and gun, naming it Civil War Era (I had an RPG ingame when I named it). The mod wasn't really supposed to happen, I was originally focusing on Clone Wars Expansion, but my brother didn't stop making new weapons for the mod, causing me to work on Civil War Era more than CWE. The world setting takes place in a modern non existent country where desert people with bright cyan eyes, that speak Portuguese of all languages, are at war. The mod continued to grow with new ideas and such, expanding itself into an era...
Okay now some info:
First Release will have:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Cor re-textured
Tat
Jabba
Geo
Kas
Dag
Dea
Fel
Hot re-textured
Second:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Tan
Uta
Pol
Kam
Nab
End
Mus
Myg
Yav
Third:
Hidden/Spoiler:
BFU
You will be able to run Civil War Era on all modes excluding hero assault and campaign.
Hunt will actually be a hunt, you versus 50 ish enemies. XL will be what I call
"Classic Mode", based off of the early days of Civil War Era When all classes had
an RPG.

One thing I'm really excited about presenting is "The Wreck". This is a map of the mod
that will be released some time after the first release or with it. As the name suggests
the map is a "wreck", that wreck will be a train wreck. The most unique feature will be
its custom mode called Drop Zone :) . You may know what that is already. So how
about some sides info?

Basic information on the sides:
- Sides: Military and Rebels
- Real guns with recoil and iron sights (all new models)
- All classes have a method of melee (sword or knife)
- Different weapons and advantages between the sides
-- say the Military sniper who wont appear on radar while the rebel sniper does
- Golden guns unlocked rather than award weapons. The golden gun is an
-- improved version of your weapon (less recoil, armor piercing rounds,
-- better sights, higher mag capacity, etc.)
- New sounds (weapons and voice overs)
- New vehicles
- New grenades
- New effects (obviously)
- New turret(s)
- New animations

Map related:
- New team icons
- New health and ammo droids (not droids)
- Dropped items will be AK mags and Health boxes

I'll add more as a remember :P

Notice: I'm working on this with my brother who made most of the custom models shown!

looking pretty good. I really like the grenade and custom first-person or whatever that lined up sights picture was.
My only complaint is that the units (people) are a bit rigid. maybe some extra time spent on the units could help because they do play a big part in the game.

Thanks, as of now the models are lowres, that is why they looked rigid (because they are). If I can make a good rebel model then all the models will go back to normal.

I don't mean to sink your battleship, but the rocket-propelled grenade wasn't invented until WWII. :o

Nice work on those unit models, though! They look pretty good!

Yes. Why does that matter (besides the fact that it's old)? :o

Well, it matters because it would be awkward to see RPGs and the like in-use in a time where gunpowder is still being used; cannons and the like were the main "destruction" weapon in the Civil War, if that's what you're looking for - in fact, it would actually be pretty interesting to see cannons in a SWBF2 mod. :o

Of course, all of this depends on whether you're going for realism or your own adaptation of the Civil War, but whatever. :)

He's not basing it on the American Civil War.

Welp, that explains an awful lot. I thought I read all of that info already - I guess not. Well then, point redacted.

Alright, mini update:
Added Golden AK-108 award weapon, improvements are - 20 more damage per shot, less recoil, and an optical scope. Doesn't sound like much but it makes a big difference ingame :)

Also here's a demonstration of Drop Zone on The Wreck:
LINK

To achieve victory your enemies reinforcement count must reach 0 when 1 kill = 0 less
reinforcements for enemy team and keeping the zone = 1 less reinforcements for enemy
team per second or so. Drops will start to fall from the sky to the team that owns the
zone once the team has held it for a while. If the zone is re-captured the drop process
resets. You can use enemy drops however the AI don't, rather they like to steal what
you get out of it :P . So, your objective is to get and keep control of the zone until your
enemy reinforcement count is depleted.

I'd recommend replacing the Lemon Mountains with sand dunes or something. I do like the rest of the Hoth reskin, though.

Any chance we can get some T-55's, T-72's or BMPs? That would really make this awesome. I would probably kill for a mod with a BMP in it. You could probably rip the models from Battlefield or something.

Just a thought.

Yeah... the mountains look weird. I'll see what I can do.

I'm not sure about tanks just yet but there will be at least three to four more vehicles.

There will be a beta eventually. Sure you can beta test (remind me if I forget)

I highly suggest you replace the Hoth terrain textures as opposed to color them, because it looks really obvious. If you want a nice sand dune texture you can have the one I used for Mos Eisley (the one I never released).

Another comment on the (great) Hoth retexture. A bit of sandy color in the sky might also help. Look at the Tatooine sky, for instance. Possibly just play with the sky some more; it seems just a tad off.
