Capital Strike (v1) Released!
I have just released probably my last all new map called Capital Strike. It was an experiment that worked out really well. I followed the excellent tutorial from this site in making a space conquest, but I enabled the terrain, making it a space and ground battle combined. It's a lot of fun to play, but not without bugs. I didn't go for perfection just good, stable fun!
Since real life is dragging me away from doing more of this kind of thing, one of the reasons I posted this here was to inspire some of you much better mappers than me to do more of this kind of map. I personally can't wait to see what some of you guys (and gals) come up with.

STARWARS BATTLEFRONT II Map
Capital Strike (version 1.0)
Made by Jonathan Witt (a.k.a. "DarthDaddy")
The Story:
Clone Wars – A Trade Federation coreship was intercepted by Republic forces as it entered the orbit of an Outer Rim world. The coreship has crash-landed on the planet's 2nd moon, but is not entirely destroyed. Despite the fact that a Republic Assaultship is holding position over the crash site, a CIS capital ship has moved into the area and is attempting a recovery mission. CIS troops are already landing at the site and preparing a ground defense. It promises to be an intense fight in the thin atmosphere and on the ground!
Galactic Civil War – The Alliance has discovered an old weapons cache onboard a long-abandoned, Clone Wars era coreship on the 2nd moon of a remote, Outer Rim world. An Imperial Star Destroyer has been dispatched to prevent the Alliance from gaining any more weaponry, but a Mon Calamari cruiser is involved in the operation, receiving cargo and guarding the site. Rebel troops are already landing at the site and preparing a ground defense with the antique weapons they have discovered. It promises to be an intense fight in the thin atmosphere and on the ground!
Installation: First, create a new folder called "addon" in your "Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData" folder (unless you have already done so). Second, extract the "CS1" folder from the zip into your "Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\AddOn" folder. You should be good to go!
Gameplay: This is really a mix between a conquest and a XL map. The action is intense, but gets even better if you set the AI controlled units to 32, although it may crash under that setting depending on your system. Also, it may be difficult to find and eliminate the last enemy unit to win the victory (check the hangars and the coreship dome for stragglers if that is important to you). With all that said, play away!
Acknowledgments and Known Issues: There are a few missing sounds for some of the units and for two of the vehicles. Also, the AI is a little wierd in the hangar of the Star Destroyer, causing some units to not jump into the fighters and leave (never could figure out why). There may be other bugs, but I have thorougly tested this one before even thinking about releasing it. Thanks for playing my maps! Thanks to http://www.gametoast.com for all the help and starwarsbattlefront.filefront.com for posting the files!
Legal Matters: These files may not be redistributed on CD or DVD, resold, modified, or "plugged" into a mod without permission from me. Thanks goes to Lucasarts for the materials and to George Lucas for the inspiration!
May the Force be with you in the game and may God be with you in real life!

Lol, Linus, there are screenies, follow the link to the file, there's screenies there.
On topic: Looks nice man, I think that you should at least move the planet a bit into the distance, no way you could have a moon that close, and in the screenies you can see the edge of the map, I think that's kind of unsightly (not that I know of how to fix that).
Nice work though.

You should look at it on SWBFFiles, it's one of their featured downloads. It's gotten rave reviews all around. (Having said that, I've not played it personally, but don't judge one's maps without due considerationLinus wrote:Sorry, dude. No screenshots = No download.

Lol, same message, same minute...
Really, I didn't know it was that well liked, I might have to download this.
(given that I rarely download mods anymore except for major ones; ie. BF1 Conversion Pack)

RE: Re: RE: Capital Strike (v1) Released!
i liked the map, it was cool to fly around adove the ongoing ground battle, but i think you need to move the cap ships up higher, so you have more room to fly...
RE: Re: RE: Capital Strike (v1) Released!
From the screenshots, I say vary the ground texture more and add some rocks just to make it look more varied from up in the sky. Looks awesome though!
Terrain Textures
I wish I had thought of it before I archived and released it, but the first two screenshots showing more of the terrain at a distance do not reflect the last changes that I made to it in order to make it more "moonish."
Also about the edges of the terrain, I rounded them off to make it look like a rough horizon of a very small moon.
Thanks for trying it out!

Some Suggestions,
Adjust the Terrain height at the edge and maybe untexture some of it in order to give it a more oddbal and natural asteroid feel. Even if it is shperical, if you can see the curvature, you will see craters/mountains that make it have an uneven horizon.
Add some random craters, hills and mountains to the terrain.
Maybe try adding a black distance fog-very distant, to make the edge seem more distant and blurry. I'm not sure it if will effect the planet or not, though.

Heh, I'm happy the way everything is.
*OWNS EVERYBODY IN MY JEDI STARFIGHTER*
Yeah, the only thing I have to say is that because there is a command post inside the ship, many of the CIS vehicles go directly under the ship. Much like they do that in Vyse's Hyrule Field. But, it's still awesome. Darthdaddy's maps are the only ones that I like to play in a ship instead of using a ground trooper.
