How do I create a symmetrical model in XSI?

Post by MissingTexture »

Hello GT,

I'm trying to learn how to model, I've watched a video on how to create a Base Mesh for a model and attempted the shortcut to cut the model in half, but it did not work :(

So now I am trying to find out, what do I got to to split the model in half and apply symmetry so that what I do onto one side will be mirrored?

I am also using Autodesk Softimage Mod Tools 7.5 (32-bit)

Any help would be appreciated!

Try this:

EDIT2
This is from some old notes I had:
Chop model in half
clone it
scale -1
merge with original.

If you now set your merged mesh to unselectable and hide the clone you can work on the original any way you like and have the merged mesh update.
You can set the original mesh to view wireframe and the merged mesh to shaded

Awesome, worked nicely :)

How do I add additional points so I can manipulate more than the 4 or 8 provided from the cube?

Explore the "XSI Training Movies" section in the XSI FAQ.

You can model most things using very few tools like:
Add edge tool - \
Knife tool - [
Extrude - ctrl+D
Subdivide Edge - shift+D
Create Polygon - N
