If we're talking the best compression, then 7-zip. If we're talking good compression and something that people actually use, rar.

Personally, I would go for Archiving and Compression Formats being way less well-known and recognized by the around GameToast members usually looking for the most effective and appreciable final file-size aiming the numerous Resources they might want to make as much shrunk as possible, and that's why I would suggest having a look at Performances and Possibilities reached by Specialized Softwares taking advantage out of the CAB file-format, such as Macrovision® InstallShield or the Hidden Utility called "IExpress" embedded into most of the current Microsoft® Windows Versions...

It all depends on the type of data you are trying to compress.

I am noticing you have never ceased following the "Wisdom's Path", and asking such a Question wasn't indeed that unhelpful, although I assume this Subject has been tackled in order to determine which Archiving and Compression file-format might be the most valuable one intended to pack up Resources and Modifications conceived for either Star Wars Battlefront or Star Wars Battlefront II. In case that wasn't the case, then I would be equally rather interested in learning more about the exact Objectives inherent to the concerned Demand...

Try using an install creator program; it provides very good compression...up to 50% for some things...

Ctazytieguy, try 7-zip on you're mod and compare. For an swbfmod, I recommend a simple 7-zip self extractor, or something created with Inno Setup, which uses the LZMA (7zip) codec. It's easy using inno to install maps.

.RAR is a very good compression system. More efficient that .ZIP by a long shot.

Well, it seems that Opinions phrased and posted by around GameToast members might not help you so much in order to check out whether one of the quoted Archiving and Compression Algorithms might meet the most your Expectations, and for that reason, trying out those arousing your Curiosity might not be that unhelpful and Unproductive. Furthermore, as I talked previously about Macrovision® InstallShield Products earlier, I would like you not to forget the fact you can obtain Evaluation Versions of these Designs, and that's why downloading the one associated to the "Express" Edition from this Location could be worth a try...
