Warning on 30 day old topics?

Post by Lagomorphia »

Here's an idea: how about making an reminder appear when someone tries to post in a 30 day old topic? If it can be done it should save moderators a lot of time closing resurrected topics.

i agree that this would be a good idea, like say,

"Warning, you are about to post a reply in a topic that is older than 30 days. Are you sure you want to do this"

Fixed.

You have to state that it's against the rules, otherwise someone might just say "yeah whatever, go ahead, I don't care" and post the comment anyway.

Unnecessary. There are time stamps in the top right corner of the posts. If someone does bump a topic, then it's on them to learn to look more carefully at the timestamps.

That might have sounded a bit heartless and condescending, but I did the exact same thing (bump a topic) when I was new, so, as a result, I therefore had to learn to be more vigilant.

That and it requires coding it in.

There may be a mod at phpBB.com. If not i could try to build it, just for fun, and to see if it would work.. :|

Check the time stamps, its that easy.

I was just curious, how much of a stickler are you guys? Like a 32-day bump, are you going to get on our case for that?

The rule is less enforced if the post is useful. A post saying only 'cool' or something along those lines isn't useful to the GT community. A post solving the topic's issue or a follow up from the author after attempting something suggested earlier in the topic are more useful posts. On boarder line posts, the poster's posting history is taken into account as well as the tone of the post.
