Skype and Steam
One idea I had in the back of my mind is instead of some of the barely used fields, like AOL Instant Messenger, WL/MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, etc, we have a field for Steam and Skype. Both are heavily used, and it goes along with the Xfire field. Not everyone has Xfire, but a lot of people have a Skype or Steam account instead.
Just a thought.
Just a thought.

Re: Skype and Steam
Steam, maybe, but Skype usernames? No thanks. I don't want random people on the Internet trying to videochat with me, and I imagine that pretty much everyone else with a Skype account will agree with me.

I don't care about random people, I just don't want to video chat with Gametoasters...Eggman wrote:Steam, maybe, but Skype usernames? No thanks. Ha. I wouldn't mind. Gaming has started to seep into my Skype account anyways, so I don't really care.Dohnutt wrote:I don't care about random people, I just don't want to video chat with Gametoasters...Eggman wrote:Steam, maybe, but Skype usernames? For one thing, I never even use videochat(I only use IM), and the other thing, Dohnutt, I find that to be a bit insulting...

Re: Skype and Steam
For one thing, not many people use Skype for just IMing. In fact, most people use it for video chat. So if you're going to say that we should add it because MOST PEOPLE use it over Xfire, we should go at it with the idea that MOST PEOPLE will want to video chat.
And the other thing, it's a joke. Don't take it further than that.

I imagine most people do use it for Videochat, I just dont. I coordinate with my EAW modder friends via Skype IM, and who never said it was mandatory? You can choose not to put your xfire name down, the same would go for Skype and Steam.
And jokes are very hard to communicate over a wall of text, if you dont make it apparent that it is a joke, be prepared for people to take it the wrong way.

Re: Skype and Steam
I don't really see a use for this; it's easy enough to contact GT'ers as it is.

Re: Skype and Steam
Steam: Definitely
Skype: No, as most people (and I mean MOST) people use skype entirely for video and voice chatting. If you want to IM with GTers, talk on steam or get XFire, almost all of my large list of Xfire friends are from GT.

Yeah, I can see that. I'm one of the few people crazy enough to use it just for IM chatting with modders (for both BF2 and EAW). I find Skype to be far more reliable when it comes to file transfer than Xfire.

Re: Skype and Steam
Well, if you absolutely need to transfer a file, just upload it to the interwebz somewhere, especially a picture. Or you could just ASCII the picture like a boss.

Re: Skype and Steam
Time is modding, it wastes time to have to upload it to Game(file)front. My BF2 mod team and the EAW mod team I work with, just want direct transfers.
