General Info

For people who don't know the general idea/aren't clear on it....

Dark Space is a large mappack for Star Wars Battlefront 2, that features many maps, some new modes and missions and two dynamic eras with custom sides.

The Two Eras playable on DS maps are the "Dark Times" Era (in the place of BF2's stock GCW era) made by Maveritchell, and the "Last Days" Era (in the place of BF2's stock CW era) made by me.

Both eras have new gameplay elements such as deployable command posts, poison grenades, enhanced melee combat and force powers. Both eras have random elite units/heroes/clone legions loaded on each match - so the same map and mode are (almost) never the same.

In keeping up the theme of random, dynamic gameplay, DS also features random weather and skydomes on all DS maps, and has several missions which incorporate random elements (random targets, objectives etc).

For anyone interested in being involved in Dark Space in any way please PM me.

I would like to contribute, even though I can't map to save my life. Like you suggested a while ago, I can take pics of the maps you want me to take them from.

Real sorry about this....but since I have crappily slow internet that can't really happen. I'll have to upload DS in several chunks, someone (chosen already) will compile them (and can play through them to check they work/for fun) and upload the first DS pack. So uploading individual maps is pretty much out of the question.

Well, I could just take pics of the original map without the DS sides. That could work.

Nova: not going to happen sorry. By all means take pics of DS Maloss (or the HA preview when it comes out. :)...probably will be Adon Fel)

But couldn't you send the maps to the compiler?

P.S I would like to help :) I'm no good at modelling though.

They'll be sent all in one go and the compiler is already chosen.

Well not being good at modelling is fine, anything you've got lots of practice at/a particular talent for?
Of course you can help just by giving feedback on the preview stuff (that's what its for, after all).

Well I'm okay at mapping (don't check out any of the maps I have on FF, they're all old and I haven't released one lately) but you said that wasn't an option soooooo... how about I uhhh... maybe I could do a little skinning (just simple ones though) I could also be a tester. Or I could give you some ideas (I have too many of them and not enough time to execute them all)
And actually I mispoke about not being good at modelling. I've just never done any models that WORK. Some were okay (How am I supposed to know if they're good or not?) I could get blender and you tell me to make some stuff and you see how well I do.

OK misunderstanding here....

What Nova was asking: can he play DS maps by themselves before everyone else?
Answer: no. It's inconvenient.
What I think you were asking: Can I make a map for DS?
Answer: yes of course, PM me pics first, if its good enough then I'll tell you and you can send me the files.

Ideas: No. In eight months I've had quite enough ideas to keep my BF Modding stuff filled up for more than eight months.

You may download the Maloss sides preview (if you haven't already).

Sigh...its getting there. Polishing things off for the most part.

Map count is 15 and will likely stay at 15.
DT era is gonna be optional. If you've got DT installed it'll be there, if you don't it won't show up. Saves mission space and confusion.

Releases will probably be a GT release and a second release (assuming there are significant bugs) on GT + SWBF Files.

I'm glad to see this mod nearing completion. You have truly outdone yourself with all these maps you've created and not to mention YankFan's great map-making skills too. You have worked long and hard on this mappack (and the others that have contributed) and all of us will appreciate the effort.

Good luck on the finishing touches!

I'm really looking forward to the release as well! I can't wait to see what you did to my not-so succesfully made environment. :)

Sorry this is taking so long y'all. I've got BF2 set up on 2 computers (one is vista with no ZE fiz so needed to set it up on older machine for mapping) and haven't had access to the one with sides/DS settup for a while.

On the plus side, there's three DS "outtakes" released in the releases forum, which'll be compiled into a mini pack to send off to SWBF Files soon, and I found a very old (older than kadrala islands!) map of mine (random desert map) that I've spiffed up to be the DS Sraiden map (Sraiden: Abandoned Settlement). Its set in a more geologically stable are of Sraiden (thats still affected by the volcanic smog/activity).
Still needs a bit of work but here's a WIP screen:
