They're using Ralph McQuarrie's work as a basis for how the show should look?

Here is my post from another forum relating to this topic:
I saw this announcement pretty much right when it was posted. I was just lucky I guess.

I'll just start off that this announcement made my day. So you can probably guess my views on this topic but I'll spew them out for those who like to see my Star Wars "ranting."

I love the Clone Wars TV show, especially Season 5. I love the style, the animation, acting and story. The people behind the show are wonderful people who do a good job because they love Star Wars. One of the things I adored about the Season 5 Ahsoka arc is that it had A LOT of original trilogy foreshadowing. That just blew me away the way they incorporated that into the arc and the show in general!

I don't think there is a better time period they could have chosen. This way they can include many of the characters from the Clone Wars (Tarkin! Ahsoka (remember she leaves the Jedi Order so we don't know if she is caught in Order 66) And a bunch of the great Clone Troopers! ) This will truly close the gap between the prequel and original trilogy.

I think that some of Ralph McQuarrie's concept art is amazing and I'm glad that they are using his art. The Clone Wars team (now the "Rebels" team) likes to re-use ideas that were meant for any of the 6 films, but either got cut, or were replaced. This is a great thing that really helps it feel like Star Wars. It sounds to me like the production team will stay the same as it was for the Clone Wars. I hope they keep Kevin Kiner as the episode composer. Near the end of the Clone Wars (and in some of the new bonus content previews) the score feels a lot more like Star Wars and he (finally) uses some of John Williams' themes. I love it!

That pretty much sums up my thoughts as of right now. But to sum up, I am extremely happy about this announcement and I CAN NOT wait for all of the new Star Wars media coming our way.

I keep seeing people say this. I don't think it means what you think it means. No one can speak with certainty (obviously), but I think it's a fair guess to assume the art style is going to be basically the same as Clone Wars. Two reasons:

1) They have a huge amount of assets that they'd be stupid not to continue using (environments, vehicles, etc.)

2) The Clone Wars was already based heavily on McQuarrie designs. This whole "using Ralph McQuarrie's work" thing isn't new.

Here are some of his sketches re: Rebels. There's nothing really there, but there's nothing that precludes using the exact same art style as before:

Honestly....I rather have the Clone Wars....action appeals to me more then a story, being one of the main reasons I loove the Prequels more then the Originals (Besides JarJar)

If the original trilogy didn't have action, I wonder why it's classified as a sci-fi/action-adventure film? The only reason the prequels seem more actiony is because they use cgi to put stuff in the background. If you look at the original movie battles and what's in the foreground, they're just as action-packed if not more. If I get that plus more story, I'll be a happy camper.

Well, technically Star Wars is a space opera, not sci-fi, but it certainly has science-fiction elements.

Space opera makes it sound weird.... It is certainly dramatic enough to be an opera though

Top left ship has a bit of Star Trek mixed in there. Still looks great, though.

I think that they're all the same ship design, and you're seeing some forced perspective, but yeah, they do all have those nacelle structures that Trek likes.

I like those ship designs! They're a nice blend of the sleek designs from the prequels and the blocky "used-universe" designs from the originals (which I personally prefer).
