SWTOR Free-to-play?

Post by MawDrallin »

I just read this:

http://www.swtor.com/free

And nearly leaped out of my chair and jumped for joy. According to their facebook page, SWTOR's Free-to-play option is going live this fall, and according to their homepage you will be able to play for free all the way up to level 50. Looks like I will be joining the ranks of many TOR players on here this Fall.

I just saw it, too. See that link /\ for details on the restrictions F2P players will have.
Hidden/Spoiler:
Since the server transfers, the 'origin' servers have been locked unless you already have a character on them, so only the 'destination' servers will be available for new players anyway. So saying that, if you know several GT players played on Kathol Rift, it's locked to new players, but it's destination server was Canderous Ordo, so there's a chance some of them (like me) transferred to that server. I know Kathol isn't where all GT'ers played though, so idk where they ended up or if many still play...

I'll be buying it to play through like KotOR. Don't care much for the MMO part.

That's the best way to go about this game I left because the mmo end didn't exist on my servers. I would play this as a solo game for free all day long

If it's free I don't see much reason not to get it. I hope the story is good.

The Agent story is very compelling, for what I played through. Not sure about the other 7, but hey, it's 7 Bioware stories for free.

I've played a bit of all of them, and yes, the stories are good. Some of them even reference important characters or events in other character's stories.

If i understand correctly, you'll have to choose if you pay 14/month and have unlimited access to all, or free/month with some limits?

@Yuke5, i am playing both classes at the same times, and i must say, they are cool, actually i'm playing the imperial agent, and i find it very cool, the smuggler, trooper and bounthy hunter are very cool. And the rest is good too. it really worth it.

You can already get the free no-time-limit trial and play up to level 15 without paying for anything.

It looks like they're adopting a similar business model to Clone Wars Adventures. Give away the client, let you play for free, get you excited about things you can't access unless you pay, profit through micro-transactions.
During the beta the only thing I didn't like about this game was the total size of the files dumped on my machine(around 30GB), I don't know how much it is now though.
