Return of unsupported multiplayer games?

The EFF is fighting to legalize the circumvention of DRM for old, unsupported games with multiplayer that can no longer connect to an authentication server. Game that have persistent worlds "in which the game's audiovisual content is primarily stored on the developer's server and not in the client," are not included in the exemption, so most MMOs are out.
But this could be good news for old FPS games like SWBF1/2, Halo:CE, or games like Civ V, Mario Kart Wii, or Super Smash Bros: Brawl whose online mulitplayer functionality was shut down due to lack of support.
