Re: End of SWBFII Multiplayer
I hardly ever played SWBF2 multiplayer but this is clearly embarrassing. Although it was kinda obvious that PBGS would stop soon since Ziff Davis sacrified Gamepsy for IGN.

Re: End of SWBFII Multiplayer
It does? Where? I've never seen an option to type in an IP address to connect to a server manually in all of the nine years I've been playing the game.

What we found out in SWBF is that even DC's connected to the master server and were not usable after we got kicked off of gamespy. SWBF2 may be different...but I guess we will know soon.
Also, something that you may want to do is capture the network traffic between your SWBF2 servers and Gamespy. It may come in handy for you later if you get to the point of deciphering network handshakes, etc.

Re: End of SWBFII Multiplayer
Well, I just got off of the phone with support. Took me up a couple levels from the foreign guy who answered the call (who, both humorously and sadly, thought I meant "I Spy" at first), but when I finally got to someone who could answer my question, I was simply told that there are no plans for the future of SWBF2 and that multiplayer support for the game would be discontinued at the end of May.
So, basically, what we expected.

Ugh. That really sucks.
Whose support line was this though?

Re: End of SWBFII Multiplayer
Agreed. It looks like I might have to dust off my SWBF2 files and hack in better direct connect support into the shell. We can replace the server list with a list automatically loaded from saved game files. That way, you can send your lists of servers around without having to make everyone type them in all the time. Though if finding servers works automatically for Tunngle and Gameranger then that won't be needed.Led wrote:As you have already mentioned, the key will be getting your community informed of the transition. My advice, if you want it, is to try not to become fragmented with several options, but instead stick with one option no matter what.

Re: End of SWBFII Multiplayer
Huh. You mean like, using Steam's server browser?
That'd be interesting and might work if Valve is willing to implement something like that.

So any updates on this mess? Have we figured out how we're going to play SWBF2 multi after this?

Re: End of SWBFII Multiplayer
We'll have to see what works once the servers are shut down. If connect-to-IP continues to work - which it should - we'll likely use that. If not, we'll probably just use Tungle, GameRanger, Hamachi, or etc.

Re: End of SWBFII Multiplayer
Why should it? It was already stated earlier in the thread that it didn't work for SWBF1. If anything, that means we shouldn't expect it to work here.Marth8880 wrote:If connect-to-IP continues to work - which it should - we'll likely use that.

Re: End of SWBFII Multiplayer
Our clan, after May 31 (aka Doomsday), will be moving to Tungle.
We have tested it, and the server appears to work. We have not tested if mods work, but, hopefully, we should have that up too.
Anyone who wants to join, feel free to submit an application to our site. On the app, please say Magnus recruited you ^_^

Re: End of SWBFII Multiplayer
We are SWBFII. We are an RPG Hero Assault clan. There are about 6 active SWBFII clans, two of us are RPG clans whom are waging war against one another. Every time the game goes on sale on steam, the community grows large for a while. On a good saturday night, there is about 200 players on the game.
