Gun Game Mode 2.0

Post by razac920 »

This mod attempts to recreate the Gun Game Mode from Call of Duty and Counter-Strike. Everyone begins with a sonic blaster, and getting kills advances you to the next weapon. In total there are 20 weapons. Later weapons require more kills to advance, for a total of 60 kills to win. There are no teams; this mode is free-for-all. The two scores displayed are the levels of the top two players. The AI have been boosted considerably in difficulty to provide a greater challenge.

IMPORTANT:
- This mode requires [RDH]Zerted's UnOfficial v1.3 Patch, found here: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=14483
- This mode may appear as "Custom Mode 1" instead of "Gun Game".
- This mode uses Conquest settings.
- This mode works in SINGLEPLAYER only.

Installation Instructions:
copy GGM to your Star Wars Battlefront II/GameData/addon folder (if it's not there, create it first)

To uninstall just remove GGM from your addon folder.

Bugs:
Only point counts are accurate; kill and death counts are all very inaccurate.
A few spawn points may be inside objects or outside the map.
Most death and kill messages are inaccurate.

Wow you finally finished it! Nice work. Are you going to put it on ModDB?

This is a clever mode, but it's about 100MB too large, since it uses all stock assets. With no art assets to speak of, you could have made this be only a few MB in total.

It used to be small, but there were some mismatches in unit names between my version and what the mod needed, so he included the stock sides to that it would work on everyone's game.

Fine, then build a custom side. You're still using all stock art assets, which is what takes up all the space. A side constructed of .odfs alone is going to weigh in at one megabyte or so.

I wasn't planning on posting it on ModDB, why? Do most people put things there now?

I originally had a small side of just .odf files, but a number of testers with custom sides were unable to play it then. So I ended up adding in all the textures and models. But do you mean making new class odf files that reference the stock classes as ClassParent? That might work, but the stock classes have too many weapons. Is there a way to not just overwrite but also delete inherited WeaponSection values?

Pretty much, yeah. You'll get a LOT more attention there than really anywhere else. Mod DB is the best place to post Battlefront II mods, largely due to the site's fantastic Google search rankings. Like seriously, search for "M35 Mako" in Google Images and you'll see a lot of WIP images for my Mako model.

My suggestion was basically what you just said you already tried (the previous post made it sound like the issue was .odf names). Honestly, I wouldn't bother trying to accommodate for people using side replacement mods, at least not for this mod.

That's mostly a practicality thing - the various different unit models bring basically nothing to your mod (which is fine - it's entirely gameplay-based), and they're not worth the extra space they take up.

Use VPN. It is a way of "cheating" on gamefront :P
You can use HotSpot Shield.

are these proxies? I used proxies before, and the result was 5kb/s!(I turned it off before downloading)
off course i'll check them, but if they're proxies, then I need you to upload on mediafire or mod DB
EDIT: do VPNs make me download faster(generaly)
EDIT 2: so far 60~70kb/s,better than 5...oh wait,slowed down again :(

A/ The VPN affects only the machine it's installed on - so your dad's comp won't be affected unless he installs the VPN too.
B/ It may or may not seem obvious, but in case you use a proxy, location is an important point. I live in France and use middle/eastern Europe proxies (mostly Ukraine & Russia) and get very decent speeds with them (~800 kb/s) whereas USA/CA proxies are very slow to me. Choose location wisely and you'll get very fast servers, for example if you use this list http://proxylist.hidemyass.com check only the "Fast" boxes and select the nearest countries.
