How to make New Gunship Turrets?

How to make New Gunship Turrets?

So I have two separate mesh files, one for the U-Wing gunship:

I want to add the turret msh to my U-wing model, but I don't know how to do it exactly. Would I just place the msh under the same null/dummyroot as the U-wing and edit the ODF? Mind you, I would want these turrets to be usable, like how they are used on the Battle of Scarif. The arrow points to where I want to place the turret.

You would put it under the root, yeah. Check out the way the LAAT was setup, that's basically the same idea. The turret will also need HP_fire and aimers and all that jazz. And, most importantly, hp_active so that a unit model can be attached to use the turret.
